GARY GENSLER GOES OUT SWINGING 😑

Remember Eric – that boyfriend your mom had when you were growing up?

At first you thought he was so cool, ‘cause he had a motorbike and wore wrap-around Oakley’s at all times (even inside).

…but then he proceeded to spend two years smoking cigarettes on your mom’s couch, eating all your snacks, and hogging the remote – all of a sudden, he wasn’t that cool anymore.

Yeah, well – Gary Gensler is crypto’s ‘Eric’.

Here’s how Gary went from ‘cool guy with a motorbike’ to ‘smoking inside and eating our snacks’ in four short years…

Back when the industry was first introduced to Gary in 2018, he was teaching blockchain courses at MIT, and saying all sorts of cool sh*t, like: 

Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash were “not securities” and 75% of the crypto market “fell outside SEC jurisdiction”. 👇

So when 2020 rolled around, and Biden appointed Gary as SEC chair – the industry was stoked! (A crypto bull at the helm of the SEC? Hell yeah!).

…but then began the slow march towards ‘smoking inside and stealing our snacks’.

One minute, Gary was publicly acknowledging the need for regulatory clarity around crypto – even going as far as saying Congress should create clearer rules for digital assets… 

The next, he was calling crypto the “wild west”, accusing the industry of all sorts of fraud and abuse.

(And to be fair, he wasn’t wrong! The annoying part was, the obvious solution was regulatory clarity – something he seemed to have all but forgotten about).

Then, it happened.

In November of 2022, FTX collapsed, flipping Gary’s neglect of the crypto industry into an all-out assault.

Between 2022 and today, the SEC has gone after just about every significant crypto company in the US – Coinbase, Binance, Uniswap, Consensys, Kraken – you name it, they’ve likely been sued by the SEC.

The good news is, Gary’s reign is almost over. In five short days, he’ll be gone for good – but just like Eric, Gary isn’t leaving quietly.

Does it really matter? No. Elon can weather it.

And besides, it pales in comparison to what we have to look forward to…

PPI & CORE CPI JUST BEAT EXPECTATIONS 💪

Want some more good news?

Say no more:

CPI (the measure of whether the cost of consumer goods has gone up or down) came in as expected at +2.9%, while Core CPI (aka: CPI excluding food and energy costs) beat expectations at +3.2%!

And PPI (the measure of whether the cost of wholesale goods has gone up or down) brought similar results yesterday:

The more these numbers lower over time, the more of an excuse the Federal Reserve will have to cut interest rates. 

(Making our loans/lines of credit cheaper, and giving us all more to spend on crypto!).

And so far the market has welcomed the news with open arms!

While the S&P just added $750B to its market cap:

Now, it’s not necessarily going to be all hijinks and antics and impish delights from here, we’re still a ways off from the Fed’s desired 2% rate of inflation…

But hey – we’ll take a short term win when we’re given one!
